Overview: Since notecards can be moved around on the tabletop, grouped together into piles, and distributed on multiple tabletop pages, it is important to understand how to quickly find the notecards you've created.

Instructions

Hint 1: Scrolling the tabletop

When you initially open the Notecard Tabletop View, you are viewing a portion of the full tabletop area. If you do not see the notecard you are looking for right away, you may need to scroll down within the tabletop area to find it. On smaller screens (laptops and tablets), the tabletop area may also scroll a small amount to the right.

Note: In the past, we displayed a "birds-eye-view" to help you locate notecards. This is no longer needed now that the tabletop area is smaller and can be scrolled up and down quickly (rather than the slow click-and-drag method used before).

Hint 2: Opening notecard piles

Notecards may be located within piles you've created. To expand a pile so that you can work with a notecard within, click the triangle icon on the left side of the pile.

Hint 3: Navigating tabletop pages

In projects with large numbers of notecards, tabletop pages can be a nice way to work with particular groups of those notecards while reducing tabletop "clutter." Each page is represented by a titled tab at the bottom of the tabletop, so if you are looking for a particular notecard, check that you have the right page selected. The number you see on the tab next to the title shows you how many notecards are currently located on that page.

Hint 4: Searching for notecards

If you aren't finding a particular notecard right away, or you'd like to identify a set of notecards that have something in common, use the "Search" box in the upper right corner. You can type a search term to locate notecards by a keyword, or you can click the blue Search Filter icon and perform a search using any of the options listed in the menu that opens.

Keyword
Locates notecards with the search term in their title or content fields (direct quote, summary/paraphrase, or my ideas)
Tag
Locates notecards with the text tag you select
SourceLocates notecards linked to a particular source citation
Cue
Locates notecards with the visual cue (e.g., "Need help," "Original thinking," etc.) you select
CollaboratorIf the project is a collaborative project, identifies notecards that were originally created by the selected user
Color
Locates notecards that match the color you select

Click the Search button. Matching notecards are checked and the "Notecards selected" bar appears at the top of the screen, highlighting the number of notecards selected.

Note: When a notecard pile contains selected notecards, the notecard count on the pile displays the number of selected notecards in orange. Similarly, when a notecard page contains selected notecards, the notecard count on the page tab displays that number in orange.
