Overview: When a project is shared with a teacher's assignment inbox, or it is a collaborative project shared with other students, the interface changes to allow you to send comments and receive feedback. These might be general project comments, or they can be attached to specific citations and notecards. These comment fields can be temporarily hidden when you don't need them, simplifying the interface.

Displaying and hiding comments on the Sources screen:

When you initially open the Sources screen of a shared project, you will see a "Comments" area under each citation. And if you view the notecards under any of those citations, a "Comments" area will display under each notecard as well.

If you are not reading or writing comments at this time, click the "Toggle" icon (eye) in the upper-right corner and unmark the "Comments" checkbox. The comments areas will all be hidden (until you mark the checkbox again or you log out).

Displaying and hiding comments on the Notecards screens:

Comments cannot be viewed or written from the Notecard Tabletop View.

On the Notecard Detail View, click the "Toggle" icon (eye) in the upper-right corner and unmark the "Comments" checkbox. The comments areas under each displayed notecard will be hidden (until you mark the checkbox again or you log out).

Note: The Comments option in the blue navigation panel on the left allows you to open and close a separate panel that displays (a) all general project comments and (b) all comments in the project that are currently in the "to-do" state for you (meaning that a teacher or collaborator has written a comment to you, and you haven't responded yet or marked it done). Learn more about how to use the Comments panel: "How to write and respond to project comments."
