Overview: Rather than having students self-register, an account administrator can generate a batch of student accounts.

This article applies to:

✔︎ NoodleTools School Subscription

NoodleTools Individual License

NoodleTools MLA Lite

 NoodleTools Express

This option is not applicable/relevant for schools/districts that use SSO (Google, Microsoft 365, Clever or ClassLink) to access NoodleTools.

Step 1:

Log into your NoodleTools administration area and click User Management. Under "Import personal folders (batch)" click the link "Click here." Follow the simple directions on screen to provide a list of email addresses (or email addresses + passwords) for the user accounts you wish to generate.

Up to 1000 accounts can be created with each batch.

    Hints:

Organize batches by graduation year, including the school name and graduation year in the Description of new batch field (i.e., "Sample HS class of 2022").

If you are importing both student and teacher accounts, divide those up into separate batches as well, so that you can set the folder/account type properly for the batch.

If you are creating new accounts district-wide, use the "Associate with" menu to select the name of a particular school in your district to link the batch to.

A default password is required. If you end up providing a password on every line of your import list (see Step 2, Option 2 below), this default password won't end up being used.

Step 2:

In the Import field, organize the data with one email address on each line. For each line, you have the option of adding a semicolon and providing a password (which will override the "default password" you set in Step 1).

Option 1: Provide separate passwords for each user account.

student1@testschool.edu;password1

student2@testschool.edu;password2

This would result in two new user accounts under your subscription:

ID: student1@testschool.edu

Password: password1

ID: students2@testschool.edu

Password: password2

Option 2: Use the default password you specified for all users you are adding:

student1@testschool.edu

student2@testschool.edu

This would result in two new user accounts under your subscription:

ID: student1@testschool.edu

Password: [the default password you set]

ID: student2@testschool.edu

Password: [the default password you set]

If something is wrong (e.g., an email address already exists, a password is too short, etc.), a message will appear to let you know what needs to be changed. After you make the necessary modification(s), just click Import Folders again. You can create up to 1000 accounts per batch, and each batch is tagged with the date and the description that you provide, allowing you to view the folders in a particular batch at a later date.

Updating existing folders

At the bottom of the screen, above the Import Folders button, you will find a checkbox "Update password, location & grad year for any user that already exists." When this checkbox is checked, any account that you import that already exists under your subscription will be updated with the password, school/location and graduation year that you specify in the import (and default values) fields.

This allows you to re-import the same batch of email addresses year to year, if passwords need to change for the students.

Note that you can also edit the school/location and graduation year of a group of accounts by doing a search under User Management, then marking the checkboxes next to the accounts you wish to edit (or clicking Select All at the bottom of the search results) and clicking Edit Folders. However, this mechanism does not allow you to change the passwords for the accounts (this can only be done by editing account by account, or by re-importing the accounts as described above).
